Solar panels above fishery water boost shrimp farming in E China

Description:A shrimp farm in the city of Binzhou in east China's Shandong Province has seen a bumper harvest season, partly spurred by a solar power project built on its waters. The rows of solar panels glittering in the sun not only generate solar energy but also create shade for the shrimp and lower the water temperatures by 1 to 2 degrees Celcius. The panels have helped increase this year's yield by more than 150 kilograms per mu (0.07 hectares). Up to now, about 9,700 kilograms of shrimp have been sold, with a transaction volume of 3,345,700 yuan (515,000 U.S. dollars).Aquaculture farms in Binzhou are known for their high quality produce, owing to the large temperature differences across the year and the high salinity of the region's waters.
