The Qingdao West Coast New Area was established in June 2014 upon the approval of China's State Council.Located on the west coast of Jiaozhou Bay in the eastern coastal city of Qingdao, the area includes the whole administrative region of the original Huangdao district and the county-level city, Jiaonan, and covers a sea area of about 5,000 square kilometers and a land area of about 2096 sq kms.[China.org.cn]
