Countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative pledged on Monday to enhance cooperation in areas of communication via advanced technologies such as 5G networks and 4K resolution.

They made the pledge at the Belt and Road Innovation Forum on 5G+ 4K Communication, hosted by China Media Group and the Belt and Road Media Community in Beijing on Monday, two days ahead of the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, also to be held in the capital.

In a meeting with the representatives attending the forum, Huang Kunming, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, commended the role that media outlets have played in promoting the development of the BRI.

He called on the media organizations to serve as participants in, and promoters of the initiative.

Shen Haixiong, president of China Media Group, said in a speech at the forum that his organization has been strengthening media integration via modern technologies, and developing exchanges and cooperation with international media. This has served as a bridge linking China with different cultures.

Shen hailed the rapid growth of the community, and said it has been developed from 41 organizations from 22 countries and regions to a bigger community involving 112 media outlets from 52 countries and regions.

The community has become one of the major forces driving the development of the BRI around the world, he added.

The BRI, adhering to the spirit of the ancient Silk Road, provides opportunities for countries in developing infrastructure and logistics construction, Oleg Dobrodeyev, general director of the All-Russian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Co, said at the forum.

Dobrodeyev called on the countries participating in the BRI to work together to cope with the common challenges that media organizations are facing.

Representatives from more than 50 media organizations from 25 countries and regions attended the forum.

An initiative proposed by the community at the forum called on its members - against the backdrop of emerging technologies - to develop win-win cooperation in the principle of extensive consultation and joint contribution for shared benefit so as to make greater contributions to the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
