On Sept. 23, an award ceremony for winners of the design contest of creative products featuring the "24 solar terms" was held at the Beijing International Design Week, showcasing multiple products with the traditional design concept.

During last year's Beijing Design Week, the organizing committee started a public collection of logo design featuring the "24 solar terms," referring to the system that comprises 12 major solar terms and 12 minor solar terms interlaced with each other. Meanwhile, a brand alliance was initiated in collaboration with the Palace Museum and other institutions. At this year's design week, new products such as the "Ramie Seasons" and the "24 solar terms" themed clothing, as well as traditional Chinese incenses with the theme of "Fragrance of Four Seasons" were released.

Seasonal cakes made by two students of the China Academy of Art won the gold award. They designed a series of cakes based on each solar term and raw food materials that are available at that time. Inspired by "Qingtuan," a traditional Chinese snack made from glutinous rice mixed with wormwood juice and usually sold during the Qingming Festival, the two award winners are now trying to promote their cakes by further popularizing the "24 solar terms" with the public.

Aside from popularizing the intangible cultural heritage, the event also led many artists and consumers to discover the intrigues in traditional Chinese cultures and protect them in their daily lives. Organizers of the Beijing Design Week say the event will continue to use modern design techniques to make China's traditional cultures more vivid, and further promote the inheritance and preservation of China's intangible cultural heritages.

Also, as an important activity of the Creative Design and Service Convention at the 2018 Beijing Design Week, the "Genetic Map of Chinese Esthetics" project was launched. Organizers said the aim of this project is to make full use of modern high-tech means and to establish an electronic database of Chinese esthetics. It is also expected to promote the upgrading of the design industry by enriching design elements and accelerating the transformation of design concepts to creative products.
