Alibaba's e-commerce platform Taobao has transformed three Shaxian Delicacies restaurants, the popular Chinese restaurant chain serving cuisine from Fujian province's Shaxian county and famous for its affordable prices, into cute cartoon-style places.
The three restaurants, located in Beijing, Shanghai and Hangzhou, are serving food with cute animal-print tableware and are decorated with adorable dolls, cartoon-print wallpapers and tablecloths, not at all the same ambience as the more humble places they used to be.
In the restaurant, customers can not only have meals but can also use the Taobao app to scan decorations or tableware to buy them online, serving as an example of Alibaba's new retail strategy.
