Trump says Bannon has "lost his mind”

Washington (People's Daily) -- US President Donald Trump issued a statement today claiming his former chief strategist Steve Bannon has “lost his mind.”

Trump’s remarks follow a recent magazine story where Bannon discussed meetings that supposedly happened between Russians and Donald Trump Jr., Jared Kushner, and Trump’s former campaign manager, Paul Manafort.

"Steve Bannon has nothing to do with me or my presidency. When he was fired, he not only lost his job, he lost his mind,” Trump’s statement said.

An excerpt from an upcoming book about Bannon appeared Sunday in New York Magazine where he said the connection between the Trump campaign and the Russians was "treasonous.”

It is believed Trump Jr., Kushner, and Manafort, participated in meetings during the months heading into the presidential election.

An investigation into the allegations of Russian involvement in the Trump campaign by Department of Justice (DOJ) officials and a special counsel headed by former FBI Director, Robert Mueller, is still underway.

In October, Manafort plead not guilty to charges of fraud, money laundering, and conspiracy, which were brought against him by Mueller.

Today, it was reported that Manafort filed a lawsuit against Mueller claiming the former FBI boss overstepped his authority.

Bannon was regarded as Trump’s right-hand man during the presidential campaign, playing a pivotal role after Trump took office.

US media reported Trump was not happy with how his chief strategist was able to garner an unfair amount of attention. In February, Time magazine featured Bannon on the cover where it read, “The Great Manipulator.”

In August, Bannon resigned following John Kelly’s nomination as White House Chief of Staff.
